A new icon driven by function
FOAM came to PENSA looking for a progressive, brand-driven industrial design for their zone anchor, a user-installed module. The decentralized FOAM Location network consists of Zone Anchors (ZA). These remotely-controlled radio nodes are coordinated to transceive LoRa packets to and from one another and configured to log those packets to a remote data store such as blockchain. The Zone Anchor consists of the PCB stack, battery, LTE Modem, and two antennas. To perform localization, the ZA needs to be placed outdoors.
Design and engineering integration
The design of the zone anchor is an icon which builds on existing brand equities while expressing qualities of a positive and intelligent future. The PENSA team of designers and engineers worked side by side to ensure that the concept vision was maintained, while solving for the challenging product requirements. For the user, the modular units are easy to install in a variety of outdoor, rooftop situations. Iterative ideation and prototyping lead to forms, materials and assemblies that solve for waterproofing and heat dissipation.
